Born in Hanford California, my family moved to Bakersfield very early in life. I attended school, married, and raised my family here in Kern County. Pursuing my education always came second to family, but has been a constant passion for me. Now I find myself in the position of Doctoral Candidate and understand why I am always exhausted!
The field of health care is an interesting, complex, and rewarding career path. I have progressed through various front line positions while gathering operational knowledge and leadership skills. Then, oncology found me through the cancer registry. My career in cancer registry opened doors than I could not imagine at that time. With greater than 20 years in healthcare, I have committed nearly all my career to the field of oncology.
I have had the pleasure of meeting many incredibly intelligent and caring oncology care providers at several exceptional centers. The many strong and talented team members I have the privilege to call friends and colleagues span several cities within California, and out of state.
By far, it is the patients and their support circle that I have come to know, in different segments of their cancer journey, that have stolen my heart. To all the people I know now, and will meet in the future, I will forever be grateful for the lessons taught and the stories shared.
When I made the decision to take the leap to completing a Ph.D., it was with the hope that I can make a difference in oncology research. The non-drug arena of research hold great opportunities. That is where you find me today. Enjoying my family, having a meaningful career, and enduring the exhaustion of the daunting task of advanced studies.
